When Nelly Sue (13) looks up at the sky, what she sees is a lot of questions, questions such as ‘what is dark matter’? She’s completely obsessed with the universe and she wants to become an astronaut. Just like Edouard, Prince of Luxembourg, with whom she is totally in love.

With these two things on her mind Nelly Sue doesn’t need anything else, so at school she is the typical lonely soul who feels she is a little better than the rest. When she finds out that the school basketball team is going to a tournament of which Eduoard is the official guardian, she finally gets a chance to meet him. There is however one little problem: she can’t play basketball!

Fortunately there is Max, the new kid in town, who is an excellent sportsman in need of some help with his homework. The two strike a deal, although they dislike each other. It goes without saying that this changes as they get to know each other better, and in the end Max even teaches Nelly Sue what’s important in life - which doesn’t involve princes. He even finds a beautiful quote from Einstein to illustrate his point: “You don’t have to understand the world. You just have to find your place in it.” Sub-plots in the film are the fascination of Nelly Sue’s father for Max’s mother, and Nelly Sue’s American mother who misses New York. Nelly Sue’s is also uneasy at a bar mitzvah: she believes in science, not in religion!
