Summary

This story, like no other, proves how we're all victims of our memories. The publisher Luis travels back to Segovia to recover his mother's remains. There, he is overwhelmed by memories and a war trauma. When he finds that his first love and cousin Angelica has been (unhappily) married, he tries to find consolation in religion, and a relationship to young Angelica, who seems to have inherited her mothers beauty. Everything though, to no avail. In the end Luis realizes how lonely his past has made him and it's pretty much too late to escape. [summary by ALIPTES]
